Manager Selection Process

All Star Manager registration is completed via an online registration process through the league website. Registrants must have been a manager and/or assistant coach during the Spring regular season. All interested managers and assistant coaches meet with the All Star Selection Committee (a sub committee of the Board of Directors) to discuss their interest in All Stars as well as, but not limited to:

  • Knowledge of the game of baseball and tournament play
  • Willingness to commit the extra time required of an All Star Manager
  • Behavior on the field in game situations
  • Relationship with players during practices and games
  • Whether or not the Manager would be a positive representative of Central Loudoun Little League during tournament play
  • Rule infractions and resultant actions
  • Attendance at General Membership meetings and participation in any extracurricular meetings offered by the league
  • Attendance in Managers Clinic and certification in Safety Meeting
  • Field maintenance during the season

Together, the Director of Special Events and All-Star Manager Selection Committee make recommendations for selection. The Director of Special Events presents a slate of All Star Managers per age division to the Board of Directors for approval. Once notified, All Star Managers actively review and scout every player registered to be an All Star throughout the remainder of the All Star selection window to gain insight on the player's abilities to represent CLLL in tournament play. All players in All Star age divisions in CLLL are eligible for All Stars and are free to self register. The All Star Selection Committee will distribute a list of committed All Star players by team to all respective registered regular season Managers. Each registered Manager will need to validate player eligibility and evaluate each player from the list of committed players for All Star qualities. The League Managers will be responsible for providing the All Star Manager feedback on his/her players prior to the All Star Player Selection. All Star Managers will need this information to be able to make the best selection possible. The following criteria should be used to evaluate each player:

  • Behavioral Characteristics
  • Defensive Skills
  • Baseball Knowledge
  • Mental Toughness/Attitude
  • Offensive Skills
  • Overall Athletic Ability
  • Performance
  • Versatility

Finally, the All Star Selection Committee presents rosters to the Board of Directors for final approval. The League is then notified via posting on the CLLL webpage.  Once the rosters have been set, it shall be the league president’s responsibility to review and certify the birth records (league age) by viewing the original birth record and residence or school attendance (as defined by LLI) of all players. When the league finally decides on the makeup of the team, names must be entered on the league’s Eligibility Affidavit.
