Red Wings Parents,
What a great start practice! We covered a lot of mechanics yesterday but the pace kept the kids engaged.
Our first game is 9/11 at 10:30am at Belmont Ridge MS. Please try to arrive by 10:15am to give the kids a bit of warmup time. I will probably arrive around 10:00am. Also please remember your red socks and belts in addition to gray pants. Hopefully every kid received a hat and a jersey but I will bring the extras just in case.
Areas of focus
All the kids did a great job today! We covered a few different areas with the kids to include gripping the baseball, throwing, fielding and hitting from the machine. The grip is such a simple yet overlooked part of throwing a baseball. If you happen to be out with your kids throwing or just talking about practice, remind them of the two and three finger grip.
5 steps of throwing:
The biggest area of focus that I want the kids to learn is keeping their eye/focus on the ball. Too many times kids get hurt because they were not paying attention. I was used a ball at the beginning and end of practice to teach the kids this concept. Whomever was holding the ball is who the team should be paying attention to. Again if you can incorporate this into anything at home it will help reinforce the learnings.
Looking forward to seeing everyone back on the diamond Saturday for our first game and please don’t forget I need the forms signed and scanned back to me or handed off at the next practice.
Can you also please confirm if there are any alergies in the group? Also do any parents against their kids having gume or candy?
